How to Apply

Admissions Policy

At the American School of Porto, we welcome students from diverse backgrounds who are eager to learn, grow, and contribute to a vibrant international school community. Our admissions process is designed to ensure a good match between the student, family, and school, and to help us support each child’s academic and personal journey.

Eligibility

We accept applications for Grades 7, 8, 9 and 10 for our opening academic year. Students of all nationalities are encouraged to apply.

As our academic program is delivered in English, applicants must demonstrate a level of English proficiency sufficient to engage with classroom instruction, discussions, and assignments. During the admissions process, students may be asked to complete a language assessment to ensure appropriate placement and determine whether additional language support is needed.

Application Process

To apply for admission, families must complete the following steps:

1.

Application form

Submit a completed Application Form, which includes:

  • Student personal information
  • Parent/guardian contact details
  • Educational history
  • Health and learning support information
  • Language background

2.

School Records

Provide official school transcripts from the last three academic years, including current year progress reports. All documents must be:

Translated into English by an official translation service

Stamped or signed by the student’s current school.

3.

Interview

Once the application and transcripts have been reviewed, we will schedule a personal interview with the student and family, either in person or via video call. The interview helps us get to know the student, understand their goals, and answer any questions from the family.

4.

Additional Assessments (if needed)

Depending on the student’s age and background, additional assessments in English or Mathematics may be requested to help place students appropriately or identify support needs.

5.

Admission Decision

Admission decisions are based on:

  • Academic history and readiness
  • Alignment with our school’s values and culture
  • Availability of space and resources to support the student’s learning

Families will be notified of the admissions decision within a reasonable timeframe after all required materials and interviews are complete.
