About American School of Porto

Our commitment to students and families

American School of Porto aims to create a warm, inclusive, and academically excellent environment where students thrive personally and intellectually.

Our mission & vision

We empower globally minded students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally through an authentic American education grounded in excellence, inclusion, and whole-person growth. Our vision is to be Porto’s leading American international school — a place where students feel understood, challenged, and prepared to lead meaningful lives at university and beyond.

Our values in action

Our guiding principles

Authentic American Curriculum

Our academic program follows U.S. standards and is led by experienced, American-certified educators. Students benefit from a curriculum that supports deep learning, cross-disciplinary thinking, and creativity.

Advanced Learning Opportunities

Our high school program includes Advanced Placement (AP) courses and other university-preparatory experiences designed to challenge and inspire. We guide students toward the academic pathways that align with their strengths and post-secondary goals — whether in the U.S., UK, Europe, or beyond.

Social Emotional Learning

Awareness, empathy, connection, resilience. We embed SEL into the fabric of school life from classroom practices to advisory structures. Through intentional programs, students develop awareness, resilience, and empathy, while building strong relationships with peers and mentors.

Whole-Person Growth

Every student at ASP is seen as a whole person. We offer mentoring, community-building experiences, and daily structures that support self-confidence, identity formation, and a growth mindset.

Enrichment Programs

Clubs, visual and performing arts, sports, and off-campus experiences are integrated into the ASP day. We believe that creativity, movement, and exploration enrich the academic journey and student wellbeing.

Community & Belonging

Strong PTA and inclusive school culture. We are building a vibrant, inclusive school culture where students, families, and staff feel deeply connected. Our PTA will play an active role in shaping the school community, alongside student leadership and co-curricular life.

Why we started ASP

As founders of YOURWAY Education, we’ve spent nearly two decades helping students access exceptional secondary schools around the world. We’ve walked the campuses of top U.S. boarding schools, seen what works and asked ourselves why it doesn’t exist closer to home.

As parents living in Portugal, we saw a gap: a school that combines American academic quality with a supportive, international-minded environment. A place where students are not just prepared for university,  but prepared to lead, connect, and contribute.

That’s the American School of Porto.
