Personal Mentoring Program

At the American School of Porto, we believe that meaningful relationships and personal guidance are essential to student success. That’s why each of our students is paired with a dedicated mentor — a faculty member who provides consistent academic support, encourages personal growth, and helps students navigate their high school journey with confidence. Through regular one-on-one meetings, mentors work closely with students to set goals, reflect on progress, and build the resilience and self-awareness needed for lifelong learning and well-being.

Each student is paired with a dedicated faculty mentor who serves as a consistent guide and advocate. Mentors meet with their mentees on a bi-weekly basis, providing a space for open conversation, academic planning, emotional check-ins, and goal-setting. These relationships help students develop essential skills such as self-management, resilience, and decision-making.

Mentors support students in areas such as:

  • Tracking academic progress and identifying strategies for improvement
  • Exploring interests and planning future coursework or college goals
  • Managing stress, time, and transitions
  • Navigating friendships, identity, and well-being

In addition to working closely with students, mentors also serve as a point of contact for families, fostering a strong school-home partnership. Regular updates and communication help ensure that parents are engaged and informed about their child’s development.

Through this personalized and caring approach, we aim to create a school culture where students are not only academically challenged but also deeply supported—preparing them for success in school, in life, and beyond.
